Summary of the miracle morning
Hal Elrod,
at the age of 20, was one of the top salesman, his relationship was going well,
family was happy and he was too. Everything was going well. But one day when he
was going home after giving a speech, he was in an accident. An alcoholic man
driving a truck at 70 km/hr. hit his car. It was big accident which broke his
legs, arm, lung punctured and many several injuries. He was dead for 6 minute
in that road. But then paramedic revived him and took him to hospital where he
was in COMA for 6 days. When he woke up, doctor told him that his brain was permanently
damaged and he won’t be able to walk again. He was shocked and felt sad. He had
learnt from his mentor that feeling bad about negative thing which can’t be changed
is good but just for 5 min only.
He stopped worrying and accepted
that only two things could happen. Either like doctor said, he won’t be able to
walk. But he had a commitment that he would be the happiest person to sit on a
wheelchair or prove doctors wrong and walk again. He started having fun and
cracked joke in such pity condition. Seeing this doctor felt that Hal was in
trauma and don’t want to accept the truth. Result of this positive attitude and
living with fun was that Hal recovered quickly. Too quick that doctors were
amazed. And just after 4 weeks he proved doctors wrong and started walking. Everything
went fine and life was back in track with more confidence built in him. He broke
many sales record in his company; earned a lot of money, opened his own
business, happily married, bought house.
But again trouble was knocking at
his door as economic crashed in 2007-08, after which his business was in loss
within a night. In his book he has admitted that he was at worse phase of his
life. Everyday life was going from worse to worst. He was in heavy debt. Then his
wife suggested him to meet his pal who was doing well in that economic crash
too. Hal told all his situation to him and asked for tips. Friend told him to
do two things:-
To
wake up early every day and exercise.
Read
books on self-improvement after exercise.
Hal didn’t like
his advice. But thought to give it a try as he had no choice. Hal mentor had
told him about the Morning Rituals i.e. doing specific thing daily morning and
making a habit of it. It is the most impactful thing to become successful. If you
will win the morning, you will win the whole day. Author decided to make a
ritual by combining the best habit of successful people and making them a
ritual to practice every day. After research, he fond six important common
habit followed by every successful people that were impactful.
Before following
this ritual, author was in 50K debts, house was in loan, he was sick and
unhealthy. But within two months of following this ritual, he doubled his
income, saved his house and also ran ultramarathon; the same man to doctor said
that he could not walk. He was now a happy person.
Everything
went too quick that author himself was shocked so this book is named as miracle
morning because everything that happened to author was no less than a miracle.
Author
has formed an acronym to remember this 6 habit called SAVERS.
1. Silence
The
silence means meditation or prayer. Many people after waking up takes the trouble
of whole world. Some by reading newspaper, some by checking social networking
sites and many others. But successful people don’t do this instead they go to
silent mode after waking up. They do meditation, yoga or prayer which relaxes
their brain and help them in calm and good start of their day.
Before author
used to think meditation was spiritual thing which has no connection with
success. But after research and reading about successful people, he knew
meditation was the vital aspect of their life that helped those successful people
to move ahead.
Billionaire hedge fund manager Ray Dalio says, Meditation is
number one key to his financial success. Not only him but all the CEO to take their
brain to peak performance and remain disciplined credits meditation. So first
thing is to practice silence.
2. Affirmation
It is a powerful technique used by many successful people. It is nothing
but just a positive statement repeated to our self after which that thing sits
in our subconscious mind and brain start believing in it and in reality we
start becoming same.
3. Visualization
It is again a powerful technique which is similar to affirmation. In affirmation,
you fit any positive things in your subconscious mind by repeating it again and
again. While in visualization, you use your imagination to think about those,
create images of those things which you want in reality. Eg: before going for
marathon, author has imagined one hour before practice for jogging that he is
wearing his shoes and he is feeling good. So after visualizing such, going for
practice was easy for author.
4. Exercise
Doing exercise in the morning has huge scientific benefits
because your brain gets more oxygen, it releases endorphin, your thinking
becomes clear, you feel better, and your energy level increases for the whole
day. Author doesn’t say that you need to go to gym. Instead you can get all
these benefits by doing few minutes exercise in the morning.
5. Reading
Author doesn’t mean to say to read newspaper or books like 50 shades of
gray. To read those books that develops you like self-help books. Those books
which summary I am trying to give you in my every blog. Read those books that
improve your knowledge, intelligence and yourself. I will post a blog on how to
read effectively.
6. Scribing
Scribing means to write. Author says to write your dreams, goals. Following this habit helps
you convert your goal into reality as if you write your dream than something magical
happens which helps to complete your goal. Richard Branson a billionaire has
said that the thing that made him billionaire which you could also try is that
to always keep a book and a pen. So all the thoughts, ideas or any important
things that you receive, write in that book. This simple thing will help you a
lot. A physical book is way better than mobile or any digital platform.
